Recurring tire-pressure issues on Segway Ninebot scooters
Independent research (August 2026): Reddit threads (944 comments), Segway's official knowledge base, manuals, guides, Facebook groups and social media were analysed to document tire-pressure problems, oxidation, and complaints about Segway support. The interactive version of this page requires JavaScript; the 8 key findings are listed below.
- Rim oxidation (G3 Max / ZT3 2025) — documented with photos: heavy corrosion of the tire bead seat, invisible from outside, on nearly-new scooters → slow deflation; once cleaned, the wheel becomes airtight again.
- Slow pressure loss — the #1 complaint: 1–5 psi lost per day or per week depending on model and conditions. Riding under-inflated « by feel » is very common: a tire can feel firm even at 1.5 bar.
- Below-spec pressure out of the box — one F2 Pro arrived at 15 psi, a GT1 arrived « low », and a Max G2 tire shipped « half deflated » with no notice: the self-healing gel gets damaged before first use.
- Localized leaks (valve, rim, motor) — precise leaks are documented: a front valve that won't hold above ~27 psi, the rear valve stem, the rim/tire seal (soapy-water bubbles), the rear rim cover, and the motor assembly (G2 Max: air didn't hold 30 seconds).
- Riding on a flat destroys the wheel — the bead unseats from the rim, gel floods everywhere, the rim goes oval or cracks, and the motor/controller is overloaded. It is the most described failure mode after an ignored flat.
- Limits of the self-healing gel — the gel plugs small holes but fails on big impacts (glass, nails, fender cuts). Several users report it dries up after ~2 years: « the gel is the problem, not the tire ».
- Tire changes = « nightmare » — bead seating is near-impossible without a compressor, rear wheel inaccessible (Max G2), loctited caps, « warranty void if broken » stickers, 21 mm sockets too thick… Many pay $300–400 at a shop or buy the whole motor.
- Support: unreachable — and heavily criticized — « void warranty if broken » stickers, proprietary parts, 2-month waits, P100S tires shipped only from the APAC HQ. A recurring pattern 2018→2026: unanswered tickets, blocked numbers, inaccessible « closed » cases — in 2026, the only answer obtained… via Facebook. Trustpilot ~1.3/5 across 851 reviews: tires leaking « from the day out of the box », warranties not honored, 89 days of stonewalling on ZT3 Pros. A few rare positive reports.
